King RX-8 seems to be getting old and Mazda have been thinking of replacing it…and they’re doing it the ZOOM-ZOOM way, with not one, but two new models! One of them is a new RX-7, with a version of the Renesis 16X 250 hp rotary engine, which can easily achieve 350 BHP. Another good part is that Mazda will keep this two-seater Japanese beauty in the “low-price” category.
Second model is rumored to be a not-yet-confirmed RX-9, a baby-doll coupe with a 350 hp version of the Renesis motor. Mazda have not acknowledged its existence, but spy pictures of the new model have been floating around the internet for over one year.
As Mazda has accustomed us, its standards will place RX-9 at a rather spicy price, which pops the inevitable question: “WHY?”. Why would any car manufacturer invest big money in a new model whose sales forecast is surely low, instead of developing a car mass-market targeted? Apparently, there are three reasons, rather good: a 10-year-old RX-8 that hasn’t done well in the sales department and which hasn’t really touched a string in the buyers’ hearts.
Now, that’s Zoom-Zoom thinking!
