Full details on 2012 BMW 3 Series

2012 bmw 3series

It’s been over five years since the E90 BMW 3 Series was introduced, and according to Automobile, it is set to hit the market in 2012. Codenamed F30, the next 3er is reportedly set to employ the F20 1 Series’ front strut layout instead of the 5, 6 and 7 Series double wishbone arrangement. But the new underpinnings aren’t the real news.

Five body styles will make up the 2012 3 Series: The standard sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible (each coming out about six months after the former’s introduction), along with a Gran Turismo model in 2013. The slant-roof five-door we’ve reported on previously will take cues from the 5 Series that shares the same name, but will feature a one-piece hatch unlike it’s bigger brother’s two-piece unit. Late-tech systems for M3 and X5

 BMW M3 Competition Package

BMW is keen on bringing to the market first class cars, equipped with latest and most efficient technology. The Bavarian carmaker announced that EfficientDynamics systems will be present in every model in its line-up, and the latest recipient is the M3, which will come equipped with Auto Start Stop this spring. According to BMW, the system, which cuts the engine when the M3 comes to a stop, reduces emissions and fuel consumption by up to eight percent.

M3 coupe and sedans in Europe will also benefit from a Competition Package, which includes 19×9-inch wheels, a suspension lowered by 10mm and a revised Sport traction control setting. A carbon fiber rear spoiler and front apron flaps are included in the package, and can be ordered separately for older M3s.

A new M Sport package for the X5 will debut alongside the Competition M3 at the Geneva Motor Show, comprised of a 19- or 20-inch wheels wrapped in specially developed tires, a new front fascia with larger air intakes, “satinized aluminum” window surrounds, M leather steering wheel, footrest and a few interior tweaks.

The Bavarian Stud: 335is

Feast your eyes on this German red-haired hot-blooded goodie. It churns its 322HP,  twin-turbo inline-six to give 332lb-ft of torque. And it does it with incredible style! Given the white and blue circle on its nose, we didn’t expect an unsightly result from the equation between an M3 and the 335i.

This feisty baby-doll has a six speed manual or a seven speed paddle-shift automatic behind that glorious I6, along with additional tasteful modifications: (more…)

335i + M3 = 335is

This equation will for sure make some eyes go wider and wetter, some lips to be nibbled and some hands to be dithered. At least! For those who haven’t yet found the unknown agency, which I doubt, it is a BMW 335is: a hotter 3-series between the already-fantastic 335i and the near-legendary V8 M3.

The N54 twin-sequential-turbocharged 3.0L I6 is given a boost increase to raise output from the stock 300bhp up to 322bhp, and torque jumps from 300 to 332lb-ft of twist, with the same “overboost” function as the Z4 allowing bursts of up to 369 lb-ft under certain circumstances.  While this isn’t a huge gain in power, a useful power gain combined with a full factory warranty is… a nice thing.

Other differences are relatively minor.  (more…)

BMW tops-off the M3

The German manufacturer has just unveiled the new convertible version of its powerful M3 series and it looks awesome

BMW has finally decided to top-off the M3, so to speak, and I have to say I believe this is a move they most definitely won’t regret. The new convertible still has all the strong points of the coupe and saloon but promises to offer a more exhilarating driving experience by allowing the passengers to enjoy the “music” of the V8 engine.

BMW M3 Cabrio features a retractable hard-top, to protect you from the bad weather and uncomfortable noises, the same 414bhp 4.0 litre V8 engine as the tin-top version, a six-speed manual gearbox that allow it to reach 60mph in 5.3 seconds at a fuel consumption of 21mpg. Another interesting fact about this M3 is that, although it uses a lot of aluminum to make it lighter, it’s still a good 204 kg heavier than the 4-doored versions, weighing 1,860kg. (more…)
