Audi’s most efficient mid-size sedan. In Australia.

Audi will launch the most-efficient mid-size sedan in Australia with the local launch of the new A4 2.0 TDI e model this week. The Audi A4 2.0 TDI e, equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, sips just 4.8 litres of diesel per 100 kilometres and emits a mere 124 grams of CO2 per kilometre, making it the best value of any vehicle in its class. The new Audi A4 2.0 TDI e is available as a sedan only for Australian customers and is priced from $49,900.

According to Immo Buschmann, Audi Australia’s General Manager Marketing, efficient and progressive combustion engines are a clear focus for the company’s product strategy in Australia. “While Audi has a clear focus on fully-electric vehicles for future sustainable motoring, our mid-term philosophy is to continue reducing the consumption of our excellent combustion engines. These engines become more efficient with every new generation, and there’s still more room for improvement in the future,” Mr Buschmann said. (more…)

Audi RS5 leaked images

audi rs5 brochure

Aparently Audi didn’t want to share images of its long-time rumoured RS versions of A5, but it seems nothing in this world can be kept secret. Leaked images of Audi RS5 have come to our attention to delight our sight and to make pur imagination go wild. However, we don’t have much information about this sleek coupe, but some parties have said that the RS5 will be powered by a naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V8 with around 450bhp and 450 Nm.

Apart from the red line set at about 8200 rpm, that indicates a peppery mill, we learned from the brochure that there’s a lack of a manual option; Audi’s S-tronic auto transmission is pictured here. Options will include three types of front seats and four wheel designs.

Until full details offered at Geneva, hit the link and enjoy the pics.

Audi A1. Unimpressive!

2010 Audi A1 side

Audi calls A1 “the first premium car in the small compact sector” and created it as a competitor for Mini or Ford Fiesta. The car has lost none of the visual strength of the metroproject quattro – the concept that previewed it at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2007.

Awards for Audi

Audi put forward their newest auto products and both have won prestigious awards at Detroit Auto Show.

The Audi A8 was given the ‘Award for Design Excellence’, this being  the second year in a row that Audi has won the ‘Award for Design Excellence’, which was given to the Audi Sportback concept in 2009.

The other winner is Audi e-tron, which was given the overall ‘Best in Show’ Award. It was almost a unanimous decision, even if it is a concept. Judges say they were impressed by the car’s size and proportions.

Seems Audi is keeping up with the Joneses!

Audi to-do list.

Audi headquarters. Management calls a meeting. People running down the halls, papers flying in the air, everybody yelling. Finally, the grandpas wearing glasses, schlepping their perfusion enter the meeting room. Silence falls. Top-grandpa rolls his wheel-chair next to the table, adjusts his voice and dithers: Meeting theme: TO-DO LIST FOR THE NEXT HALF DECADE…Hopefully I will survive to tear you of a strip for not accomplishing it! Everything gets dark, grandpa cackles, tilts his head back with a demonic look in his eyes, then chokes: You think we’re gonna let those puny BMW or Mercedes get in front of us? #1 on the list: (more…)

R8 Baby Brother bowls over

You take an Audi, place R8 on its back and slide through lanes with zero emissions. How does that sound? Not to mention the looks of this e-tron. The German manufacturer has done it again. They have impressed Detroit Motor Show attendants with this electric concept of R8, which was revealed last year at Frankfurt.

Shorter and smaller than the TT, it is based on an aluminium space fame chassis, and gets carbon fibre reinforced plastic body panels to keep weight to an absolute minimum. The batteries are placed at the rear axel, behind the passenger’s seat so they maintain a gravity center, only that baby brother has just two batteries instead of four, like Audi R8.  These drive the rear wheels, and are capable of delivering up to 204bhp. Other figures promise the car will sprint from 0-62mph in only 5.9sec, while top speed is 124mph, though limited to preserve the batteries. With a potential range of 155 miles, company engineers promise the car can be fully charged in as little as two hours, though owners will need a special 400volt electricity supply, or you can charge it at your regular power outlet in…11 hours…which makes me believe you will get that 400volt supplier.

Suicide to Sell A5?

We all know that advertising, PR, commercials, marketing and linked-to features make almost 70% of the product you sell. The catchier the commercial, the bigger the figures in sell reports. Some people have such a developed imagination that hey could sell matches and make you believe they are Havanese cigars.

We’ve seen ALL sorts of commercials, some funny, some boring, some interesting, some…stupid, and we’ve come to wonder how far can PR departments go with the commercials in order to raise you an eyebrow and check the product.

Well…they can even use (more…)

Stupendous 3,319.03 lb-ft of Torque E-TRON Off by One Figure

Bugly Audi flaunted themselves with the all-electric version of a shrunken R8, overpraising the supposedly 4,500 Nm-of-torque engine on e-tron (3,319.03 pound-feet!!!!). The figures made many eyes roll, many mouths drool and surprinsingly many more calivers take a pen and paper and start calculating. And it seems they were right: Audi got the sums all wrong! (more…)

Audi Snook – The car with ONE wheel

Audi Snook isn’t really a car and it’s wheel is not … well….a wheel,is a sphere.

This concept was realised by the german designer Tilmann Schlootz. The vehicle seems to be a variant of the Seagway, copying the ideea of spherical wheels from the “I,robot” movie.

This odd car has 3 cylinders that will help the sphere to move in any direction, maintaining the car stable.

The Audi Snook won the Michelin Challenge Award 2008 at Detroit Auto Show.
