2010 Euro-spec Toyota Auris doesn’t come with big changes compared to previous versions. A little tweaking to the exterior: a new bumper with integrated fog lamps, new headlights, a new grille, side mirrors with repeaters, new alloy shoes, rear lights, some chrome and a new rear bumper.
At the inside, we find the same little differences by means of which they can claim this is a new model. However, not very impressive or radical: white Optitron instrument cluster and higher quality soft-feel plastics on the dash. The handbrake comes in a new shape and the centre console gets a silver finish. The cabin also features new cloth upholstery.
Toyota have worked on the suspensions too, for a stable high-speed driving on European roads, with secure handling and greater ride comfort. The current range of engines and six-speed manual and MultiMode transmissions are retained – there’s a 1.33-litre Dual VVT-i with Stop & Start, 1.6 Valvematic petrol and a 1.4 D-4D diesel.
Prius drivetrain will provide “inspiration” for future promised hybrid Auris.
Not very many volte-faces…actually none, but still, the Japanese bug remains a comfortable, quite affordable, satisfying car.
