2011 Volkswagen Touran

Auto Mobil International in Lepzig will be the place where VW will reveal 2011 Touran 7-seater MPV, which has suffered its second facelift since its debut in 2003. The styling is inspried by Polo, Golf and Touareg models, as follows:

At the front, the Touran gets VW’s latest corporate grille along with new headlamp and bumper designs. The rear section of the Touran was also restyled featuring two-piece tail lamps that extend from the wing into the tailgate, while VW’s designers also modified the MPV’s profile by adding an upwards kink on the rear window section.

Revised Passat CC adds Sat Nav and Bluetooth as standard

2010 Passat CC

Seems like VW-AG group has found the key to success, namely to good sales results: besides good performance cars, they give you a lot of  high-tech stuff as standard for your car and DO NOT charge you for their entire value, but just for a sum that you won’t even notice when paying for the car.

For the first time VW’s CC can accommodate five adults thanks to the addition of an extra space situated between the rear seats, while up front satellite navigation is fitted as standard along with a touchscreen Bluetooth device. Standard equipment also includes 2Zone electronic climate control, a leather steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake, 17-inch ‘Phoenix’ alloy wheels and six airbags. (more…)

Polo awarded again: Volkswagen’s hatch wins World Car of the Year-Award

2010 Volkswagon Polo

Second victory in a row for the Volkswagen brand.

At the New York International Auto Show in Manhattan yesterday the Volkswagen Polo has been declared the 2010 World Car of the Year.

Merit, value, safety, environment, significance and emotional appeal are the criterias for the World Car of the Year. Already in 2009, a Volkswagen model ranked the highest: the Golf. This year the top three contenders for World Car of the Year title were, in alphabetical order, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the Toyota Prius and the Volkswagen Polo.

“We’re honored that the Volkswagen Polo was chosen by this distinguished group of jurors,” said Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG. “After the great triumph of the Golf last year, we are delighted to repeat this success with the new Polo. These automobiles have reaped numerous awards, winning well-nigh every prize the automotive industry has to award. This shows Volkswagen is on the right track and is offering arguably the best range of products in its history.” (more…)

Chinese-made Tiguan SUV to compete with local-made SUVs

Shanghai VW Tiguan

Shanghai Volkswagen, a joint venture between the German automaker and China’s SAIC Motor, launched the Tiguan last Friday as Volkswagen’s first Chinese-made sport-utility vehicle (SUV), Shanghai Daily reported.

The Tiguan, equipped with either a 1.8-liter or 2.0-liter TSI engine, will be available in seven variants. Shanghai VW said about 40,000 orders have been received since pre-sales began in February. Its prices may range from 190,000 yuan ($27,000) to 300,000 yuan.

Changes between the China-built Tiguan and the versions sold in Europe and North America are minor: They amount to a new grille and a mildly reworked front bumper. The Tiguan will continue to be imported, but special models only. The imported 2.0TSI currently sells for 340,000 yuan.
With this SUV model, Volkswagen AG is planning to position itself in China’s fast-growing SUV market, which is now dominated by Japanese models such as Honda’s CR-V and Toyota’s Rav4 locally produced by their Chinese ventures.

Sales of SUVs jumped 47% to 658,800 units in China last year, outpacing the sales increase in other segments of the auto market. In the first two months of this year, SUV sales surged 170%.

Hybrid diesel? Volkswagen’s Up Lite

Volkswagen's Up Lite

How do you build a practical car that’s highly fuel efficient? Easy: Make it small and light, give it a diesel engine, and make that engine part of a hybrid power train. Strangely, no such creature has yet hit the road. Several automakers are, however, fixing to correct that oversight. In particular, Volkswagen is testing the waters with its Up Lite concept car, which shares many components with VW’s ”New Small Family” of cars, which the company will begin offering buyers by 2012.

The Up Lite is, as you might expect, quite light: 695 kilograms (1532 pounds). VW shaved its weight by keeping it small (the car is just 3.84 meters long) and making many of its parts out of aluminum and carbon composites. Some axle components are even made from magnesium. Small and light? Check.

Volkswagen's Up Lite

The Up Lite’s engine is a two-cylinder, turbocharged, direct-injection diesel of just 0.8 liter displacement—a truncated version of the larger turbo direct-injection diesels Volkswagen is well known for. Diesel engine? Check. (more…)

VW creates separate R division

VW R

Nissan has Infiniti, Toyota has Lexus, BMW has M division….it was time for giant VW to do something about it and follow the trend. Not in luxury, though. Ever since Volkswagen pulled the wraps off of the Golf R and Scirocco R, it was rumored that the automaker would be creating a separate R division, solely focused around creating new performance models, as well as special design packages. The new company, Volkswagen R GmbH, will take on the responsibilities of developing, implementing and selling R-badged products henceforth. (more…)

New VW Sharan gets sliding doors

The new Volkswagen Sharan is a welcome launch at Geneva as the Sharan that it replaces was getting pretty old in terms of looks wise, sticking out like a sore thumb in the updated Volkswagen line-up. The Sharan is a model that will be familiar to us if we’ve been following Proton developments. Long ago before the Exora was launched, Proton was in need of an MPV and a badge engineered Sharan platform MPV was one of the models along with a Perdana based on the Passat that was proposed to fill the gaps in Proton’s product line-up.

Volkswagen highlights the Sharan as being capable of 5.3 liters per 100km on the combined cycle, which Volkswagen claims is a world best in its class for fuel economy. This is achieved with the 140 PS Sharan 2.0 TDI model. This TDI model is also the only engine in the Sharan available with all wheel drive. (more…)

New Polo range for Geneva

VW Crosspolo

Volkswagen will reveal its new Polo range at Geneva Motor Show, range which includes the base Polo, a high-efficiency Bluemotion model, the GTI version unveiled earlier this week and the CrossPolo revealed today. The latest generation CrossPolo takes the hatchback’s sharp new styling and beefs it up with black plastic molding around the wheel arches, across the sills and bottom of each door, as well as on the front and rear bumpers. The front bumper gets a honeycomb treatment for the lower air intake and light silver trim at the bottom that suggests underbody protection (there isn’t any, though). Also included are the CrossPolo’s trademark silver anodized roof rails and handsome 17-inch two-tone wheels. (more…)

2011 Volkswagen Touareg

2011 Volkswagen Touareg

Unveiled a couple of weeks earlier than Geneva Motor Show, Touareg doesn’t catch your attention at the first sight, as there aren’t many changes to its exterior dimensions. What is obvious is the more sculpted sides and latest VW trend for the horizontal lines to the face that was adopted for 2011 Touareg, too.

Like any revived model, there had to be some figures modified, too. And there are: fuel efficiency was improoved by the redesign and weight reduction – the new base Touareg is now nearly 460 pounds lighter than its predecessor. Of course, there have been made some engine tweaks, too. (more…)

VW’s super Polo shoots award after award

Out of a total of 34 cars that competed for votes from the readers of ADAC Motorwelt, adorable Polo snatched second place. “Gelber Engel” is one of the most coveted trophies in the auto industry and little VW devil has been capable of satisfying numerous panels of experts since its market launch in May 2009: Thus the successful super-mini reaped the much sought-after ‘Car of the Year’ award; auto motor sport decorated it with the ‘Best Car of 2009′; the Polo got the ‘Green’ and ‘Golden Steering Wheel’ from Springer Verlag and was awarded the ‘Auto Trophy’ prize by Autozeitung.

The success of the Volkswagen Group was complemented by a ‘Gelber Engel 2010′ award for AUDI. The Ingolstadt company prevailed as the strongest brand, as it has done in the last two years.

Go Polo!

Great Expectations: VW Compact Coupe

Forget the stupefyingly unimaginative name! This here is a car that has real production potential, and is also downright handsome to boot. This is the New Compact Coupe, VW style: technology, get-up and some pretty impressive performance figures.

It is a very well proportioned car, stylish, catchy, not to mention it’s as green as my hemp seedling Tesla Motors’ Roadster. We didn’t expect otherwise, VW!

The New Compact Coupe is motivated, primarily, by a TSI gasoline engine that is as fuel efficient as it is sporty, putting out150 PS of power. That TSI engine is paired with an electric motor that gives out and additional 20 kW / 27 PS. And you also get one of the best gearboxes in the industry, VW’s 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG). And as far as those performance figures are concerned, check these out: 45 mpg, 0 to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds and it puts out just 98 g/km CO2, and top out at 227 km/h.

According to Volkswagen,Gold TDI-Hybrid concept is capable of 89g/km of CO2 emissions and returns 69mpg (Imperial) at the pumps thanks to a 220V electric motor and 1.2 liter inline-3 diesel. Drive is delivered via VW’s newest 7-speed DSG transmission.

Even if the Golf TDI-Hybrid concept won’t make it to production,VW is planning to release it in a few years.
