Geneva report: the unexpected Porsche 918 Spyder

Porsche 918 Spyder concept was something unexpected to be revealed in Geneva. The Stuttgart based sportscar maker, now under the Volkswagen umbrella, was very protective of its “sports car for the 21st century”, sports car which is a superlative at almost every aspect: 500 bhp V8 with 9,200 rpm redline, 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, faster around Nurburgring than the Carrera GT, capable of 33.3 km/l. As you can see from the pictures, they erected a barrier, well guarded by big Germans so that no one could get too close to the show stopper.

Second generation Porsche Cayenne

Second generation Porsche Cayenne

Just a few days before the official unveiling from Geneva, Porsche had to reveal the press release, as pics and rumours have been hovering the net.

Porsche has put Cayenne to a weight-loss programme, for example the Cayenne S gets its weight down by 180kg over the outgoing model. The Cayenne platform’s wheelbase has been extended by 40mm and on the overall, the body is 48mm longer than the outgoing car. The range starts with the 3.6 liter V6 model, the cheapest entry into Cayenne ownership. Power has been upped to 300 horses, and while mated to the 8-speed Tiptronic S transmission, fuel consumption is down by 20% to 9.9 liters per 100km.

The model that spearheads the new range is apparently the Hybrid version, which is no slouch as it gets an “S” in its name. The Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid features a 333 horsepower supercharged V6 engine paired with a 34kW (47hp) electric motor. The car can run on electric power only at speeds of up to 60km/h and while cruising, the combustion engine may stay off and the car may just glide along until a maximum speed of 156km/h. (more…)

Baseline for Porsche Panamera and Panamera 4

Porsche Panamera

It was time for Porsche to change their V8 normally aspirated engines and turbochargers with a V6. A 3.6 liter V6 engine with direct fuel injection, to be more exact, which will be available on Panamera. It cranks out 300 horsepower and 400Nm of torque, which is really impressive for an engine that’s under 4.0l and with no tuning.

The V6 engine will be mated to Porsche’s PDK gearbox and will also include Auto Start/Stop, allowing 30.4mpg for the Panamera and 29.4mpg for the four wheel drive Panamera 4. Both models are EU5 emissions compliant.

Apart from the beautiful engine, both the interior and the exterior look very good, so once again Porsche has done a great job. Didn’t expect otherwise.

Japanese tuning kit for Porsche Panamera

It’s enough to say “Porsche” to make you grin and see yourself drifting Fast and Furious style. What about when saying “Porche Panamera tuned by Wald International”? Even better! DO take a good look at the photo. The front bumper job and new side sills give the road-runner a sportier air, along with the rear bumper, which unfortunately can’t be seen in the photo. Until the official photos are released we can just nibble our nails while admiring the job done by the Japanese tuner.

Porsche Cayenne GTS has 405hp

The new Cayenne GTS ensures that the German car builder still has the best performing SUV on the market.

The Porsche Cayenne GTS, which is available for purchase starting this week, has a 4.8 V8 engine with direct injection, that produces 405hp, 20 hp more than the Cayenne S and that will take the car from 0 to 60mph in 5.7 seconds (6.1 seconds with the Tiptronic automatic transmission).

The GTS is ranked somewhere between the Cayenne S and the Cayenne Turbo and has a base price set at $70.195. It’s equipped with an air suspension that lowers the ride height by 0.78 inches and pressing the “Sport” button sharpens throttle response, stiffens up suspension and changes the tone of the exhaust. The sport character of the car is amplified by the four sport seats trimmed in leather, the redesigned wheel arches housing 21inch wheels and the front fascia similar to the Cayenne Turbo. (more…)
