Americans love Italian designer clothes, leather accessories, French aged wine, champagne and smelly cheese, German beer, but when it comes to certain European automobiles, they’re definitely not interested.
The reasons are simple and very well known; most European car manufacturers have a lot of diesel powered models which aren’t exactly popular in the States, where people seem to have an affinity for petrol. And European compacts don’t really appeal to Americans who opt for spacey coupes and sedans.
