Mitsubishi’s Ralliart division to cease business?

Should we cry for goodbye over Ralliart or is Mitsu’s divion just having a spring break?

Mitsubishi’s Ralliart is one of the more famous performance divisions, thanks to the brand’s rally winning exploits and the Lancer Evolution series’ cult following. So it’s sad news to hear that Ralliart is the latest to succumb to the changed environment the automotive world had to face ever since the global financial crisis hit. It is winding down operations.

“The business circumstance surrounding our company radically became worse and so, this time we have reached the conclusion that we Ralliart Inc, would scale down our business activities as of the end of March 2010,” according to Ralliart Inc’s president Masao Taguchi, in a “farewell letter” to customers, which you can read for yourself after the jump.

Mitsubishi’s quit the WRC in 2005, and more recently abandoned its Dakar Rally exploits last year, including all rally raid events. Mitsubishi is the most successful manufacturer in the Dakar, with 12 wins in 26 appearances, including a record seven back-to-back victories from 2001 to 2007. With this latest development, Ralliart will no longer lend support to motorsport customers and privateers. Also put to a stop is the planning, development and selling of Ralliart products.

Leaked images of Mitsubishi RVR interior

Mitsubishi RVR interior photo

A couple of weeks ago we presented Mitsubishi crossover RVR that will be revealed at Geneva next month, but there were no images of the interior. But as the internet is the land of all possibilities, leaked images are hovering these days across the virtual space.

Though very much awaited, the RVR does not come with very impressive modification compared to its predecessors as to the interior. Still, not many details have been yet revealed. We’re not sure even about the name as the RVR or ASX is likely to get a new nameplate for the North American market. (more…)

The wolf that changes its fur but not its habits

You know that name is very important when it comes to a car. It can and should offer helluva lot of details regarding the machine. This is how we wake up with long, complicated names that make your eyes flip like a snail’s on a motorbike. Maybe this is the reason for which many carmakers have chosen to simply use one/two letters and figures to “baptise” their offsprings. Take Audi, Mazda or Peugeot. However, it doesn’t make any difference if you present a car at a motor show under a name and then re-name it without any other modifications.

It’s the case of (more…)

Mitsubishi lines up: Evo XI Hybrid

Hybrid or electric cars have become a world wide frenzy. At every carshow, in every newspaper, on the news, all over the internet there are hybrid or battery-powered cars with zero emmisions. OK. I understand that the air is poluted and car manufacturers squeeze their brains to come up with green solutions, but what happens to the legends? To those cars that we love, the classically powered bauble?  Can you picture an electric H3? Or a Mustang? It’s like taking a delight in a juicy stake and all of the sudden someone snatches it from your mouth and replaces it with some boiled, saltless, floppy, almost green vegie – ’cause it’s better for your health, it’s go fibers and it’s cholesterol free.

Things are even worse when the “Go green” program’s target is beloved Evo. Mitsu hasn’t exactly touched a string with its cars. I’m talking about Galant, Montero, Diamante or Eclipse. And now, Mitsubishi is planning to make the next Evo a hybrid with an electric motor providing primary motivation via the front wheels, a 2.0-liter MIVEC four-cylinder would drive the rear wheels when needed. Thinking of the Endevour, for example, we can only keep our eyes wide shut and hope the slap won’t be very painful.

It’s Lancer! It’s New! It’s Limited!

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia has just raised the curtain for its pristine Lancer 2.0 GTS. The new model is very cosmetised: spruced up exterior and cabin, rear air dams and diffuser style bumper, faux carbon fibre trim on the rear spoiler and side skirts as well as gun metal grey rims, which (more…)
