Mercedes-Benz engines under the hood of Infiniti Gs

2008 Infiniti G37 Coupe Front And Side

This will preety much translate into: you buy an Infiniti and on your engine will be written “Mercedes-Benz”. And it’s not a joke! Because of the alliance of Daimler AG and Renault-Nissan, Infiniti’s G series will be getting a Mercedes-Benz engine. This means that Romanian Dacia could get Nissan or Mercedes engines? Cool! (Dacia is owned by Renault).

The G series, which represents Infiniti’s highest-volume line, will use a Mercedes inline four-cylinder from Daimler to improve fuel economy and curb emissions, according to Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Renault SA and Nissan Motor Co. Ghosn didn’t say when production of the engine will begin or at what extent this engine will replace Japanese-made four-cylinder and V-6 engines used in the G sedan and coupe. In some C-class cars in Europe, Mercedes uses a 1.8-liter four-liter engine. Presently, Mercedes uses nothing smaller than a V-6 in its North American products but it has mentioned that it might bring a smaller engine soon. Mercedes-Benz wants to start producing the C class in Alabama in 2014. At a conference call, Ghosn told reporters that data show there is actually little cross-shopping between Mercedes’ and Infiniti’s US customers. The development of this Mercedes engine is a small part of a diverse product-sharing and technology- sharing plan to be accomplished within five years. The 3 carmakers in this tie-up said that their involvement was egged on by impending stricter fuel-economy demands and the potential for cost savings to comply to them.

2011 C-Class Coupe confirmed by Mercedes

e-class coupe

Mercedes Benz has made it official: the 2011 C-Class Coupe is on its way. The German luxury automaker has announced it will build the two-door C-Class at its massive Bremen plant, with production scheduled to begin in 2011. The addition of the Coupe gives Mercedes Benz three different variants of the C-Class, with a convertible almost certainly to follow. The impressively flexible Bremen plant, which employs 12,600 workers, also makes the C-Class sedan, wagon, GLK, two E-Class variants, the SL and SLK.

With the C-Class Coupe officially on its way to production, we’re more than a bit curious as to how Mercedes will differentiate the smaller Benz two-door from the larger, more expensive E-Class Coupe. See, the bi-door E-Class already utilizes the C-Class platform, and the more expensive E Coupe is almost identical in every dimension to the C-Class Saloon. But the E-Class coupe commands a price premium of $9,000 compared to a C-Class sedan with the same 3.5-liter V6 engine.  (more…)

New Mercedes-Benz E-Class Convertible Pimped by Brabus

Mercedes-E-Class-Convertible-BRABUS

Mercedes-Benz specialist Brabus didn’t waste any time in releasing its tuning program for the all-new 2011 E-Class Convertible that was launched in Europe this week. As with all other Mercedes models, Brabus offers a variety of performance and styling kits for Stuttgart’s four-seater soft-top.

Starting with the engine upgrades, the most powerful option is for the E500 (E550 in the U.S.A.) Convertible. The stock 388HP 5.5-liter V8 unit is bored out to 6.1-liters, while the conversion also includes new cylinder heads and camshafts, a custom exhaust system and catalyst as well as a recalibrated ECU.

The result is an overall output of 462HP and 615Nm (453-lb-ft) of peak torque, for a 0-100km/h (62mph) sprint time of 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph). (more…)

Next generation Mercedes B-Class fitted by AMG?

Rumors of a smaller, entry-level new saloon for Mercedes-Benz’s in-house tuning division AMG just won’t seem to go away. As before, these latest reports suggest that the next-generation of the B-Class would be the model to get the AMG fitment, but Autocar is now suggesting that an entirely new type of engine will power the car.

The new AMG engine would reportedly be based on a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 that is currently slated for the CLS350. The mill would be downsized to 3.2 liters and upfitted with an electrically operated pressure wave supercharger.
Autocar further posits that the engine would make somewhere around 400 horsepower and could potentially send its prodigious power output to all four wheels with a rear-biased power split. If it ever comes to fruition, the new AMG model would go up against the likes of the Volkswagen Golf R, BMW 1 Series and any other entry-level hotted-up luxe models in the works. Styling would follow the example set by the F800 Style concept from the Geneva Motor Show.

Unknown tuner VÄTH’s job on roadster Merc results in crazy VÄTH V58

vath tuned Mercedes-benz

Have you heard of VÄTH before? I haven’t, but you’ll definately hear its latest creation when it zooms by. As if the Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG’s 355 bhp and 510 Nm isn’t enough for such a small roadster, the Hösbach based tuner has enlarged the capacity of the V8 to 5.8-litres (hence the V58 name) and plonked in a supercharger! The end result is an insane 565 bhp and 770 Nm of torque.

Upgrades include sports pistons, sports distribution shafts, exhaust manifolds, high-grade steel catalysts, sports exhaust silencers, polished cylinder heads, a sports air filter and a long-stroke crankshaft. Together with ECU tuning, the V58’s new top speed is 310 km/h. At 30,785 euros, it’s not cheap though. A locking differential a “home-produced and patented” fuel cooler is optional. (more…)

Mercedes S400 Hybrid Debuts During Oscar Broadcast

Hyundai was the big kahuna sponsoring last night’s Oscar broadcast, but in a shocking upset, Mercedes may have walked off with the trophy for best performance by an automaker. Sure, the ad announcing the debut of the 2010 Mercedes-Benz S400 hybrid was bland, and it didn’t say much of anything about the car, but it showed beyond a shadow of a doubt that Mercedes knows its target market like the back of its hand. 2011 Mercedes-Benz S63 with 5.5-liter biturbo V8

2010 mercedes benz s 63 amg

2011 Mercedes Benz S63 AMG will receive the company’s all-new 5.5-liter bi-turbo V8 engine, as well as the SpeedShift MCT seven-speed gearbox already on offer in the E63 and SL63. Even though it’s down on displacement compared to the outgoing 6.2-liter engine, the M 157 generates more power (544 horsepower in ’standard’ mode, 571 with the optional performance package) and more torque (586 pound-feet or 660 lb-ft. with the optional performance pack). And despite the change in engine size, the big sedan’s S63 moniker will remain.

Mercedes-Benz F800 for Geneva

mercedes-benz f800 style concept

Yet another carmaker has revealed pictures of its concept car that will be revealed at Geneva Auto Show: Mercedez-Benz F800. The new car previews the next-generation CLS and shows a completely new design line for the German brand. As a premiere, the car comes with a new concept for the rear doors which are sliders, not swingers, exactly like those features on the minivans.

Other features are the incorporation of two different electric drivetrains: one version of the F800 Style is a a plug-in hybrid with a V6 petrol engine mated to a 100 hp electric motor (Mercedes-Benz says that the car can run 18 miles in full-electric mode). The other version of the F800 Style is a pure electric vehicle powered by an on-board fuel cell.

Carlsson C25: Exquisite!

You are a carmaker of great success, you produce super sports cars and you are a legend among luxurious limousines…and you are getting bored. What to do? You walk around your room, twisting and turning your thumbs when…YOU GET THE IDEA! Tuned limited editions! It always works! ALWAYS! (more…)

The Beauty and The beast

Put your shades on, ’cause this baby’s blazing! This is the work of custom car accessory company Garson/D.A.D. They covered every square inch of this beast in Swarovski crystals, the inside covering parts of the center console, door trim and even the rear view mirror. I wonder WHO was patient enough to do this job, but especially…WHY?!?!

Bling your brains out! Have a look…

Message from the Dark Side There Is: 2011 Mercedes SL550 Night Edition

1oo very special units for lucky M-B addicts. All in black: black leather, black matte paint, “darkened” headlights – what the hell would that mean…SL also comes with 19-inch AMG wheels, silver front brake calipers and a bunch of components that are black where otherwise they wouldn’t be. In other words, it’s the super special Mercedes-uniquely-named-black-that-is-really-just-normal-black-but-we-can’t-call-it-that-to-justify-charging-several-thousand-dollars-for-it Black.

I can think of some kind of persons this astonishing SL limited edition would be fit for: vampires! Like: “Hey, it’s too bright! Turn on the head-darks!”

Restyled Mercedes SL roadster

Mercedes Benz is going to present the new, 2009 SL roadster at the Geneva motor show this march, but until then you can see pictures of this German work of art, right here.

The Mercedes SL has suffered some serious changes, including redesigned hood, headlamps, grille, fenders and rearview mirrors (which are a bit larger now). In the interior department, Mercedes has replaced the old steering wheel with a new, three-spoke one, and has restyled the instruments layout.

For those of you sensible to draft, the German manufacturer is adding the patented Airscarf feature, which consists of a small heater and fan installed in the seats headrests, blowing warm air in the napes of the passenger. Now you can ride with the top down even if the weather is a little cool. (more…)
