Mercedes-Benz engines under the hood of Infiniti Gs

2008 Infiniti G37 Coupe Front And Side

This will preety much translate into: you buy an Infiniti and on your engine will be written “Mercedes-Benz”. And it’s not a joke! Because of the alliance of Daimler AG and Renault-Nissan, Infiniti’s G series will be getting a Mercedes-Benz engine. This means that Romanian Dacia could get Nissan or Mercedes engines? Cool! (Dacia is owned by Renault).

The G series, which represents Infiniti’s highest-volume line, will use a Mercedes inline four-cylinder from Daimler to improve fuel economy and curb emissions, according to Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Renault SA and Nissan Motor Co. Ghosn didn’t say when production of the engine will begin or at what extent this engine will replace Japanese-made four-cylinder and V-6 engines used in the G sedan and coupe. In some C-class cars in Europe, Mercedes uses a 1.8-liter four-liter engine. Presently, Mercedes uses nothing smaller than a V-6 in its North American products but it has mentioned that it might bring a smaller engine soon. Mercedes-Benz wants to start producing the C class in Alabama in 2014. At a conference call, Ghosn told reporters that data show there is actually little cross-shopping between Mercedes’ and Infiniti’s US customers. The development of this Mercedes engine is a small part of a diverse product-sharing and technology- sharing plan to be accomplished within five years. The 3 carmakers in this tie-up said that their involvement was egged on by impending stricter fuel-economy demands and the potential for cost savings to comply to them.

New York report: 2011 Infiniti QX Priced from $56,700

Infiniti pulled the wraps off its all-new 2011 QX56 full-size SUV at the New York International Auto Show. Bigger and brawnier than its predecessor, the second-generation QX is based on the recently revealed 2011 Nissan Patrol. Infiniti’s version features a unique front and end treatment, but the rest of the body has remained virtually unchanged.

“The look is clearly Infiniti with its signature Infiniti grille, broad shoulders and large greenhouse,” says Ben Poore, vice president, Infiniti Business Unit. “It’s rugged, sophisticated and completely captivating.” Well, we’ll let you be the judge of that.

Styling aside, the new QX features revised dimensions versus the previous model as it is 1.4-inches longer, 1.1-inches wider and 3.8-inches lower in overall height.

Infiniti claims that the QX56’s cabin is unique and almost out-of-this-world. Even so, there are no significant differences between the interiors of the Patrol and the Q56. (more…)

Modifications in Infiniti’s line-up? M to replace Q?

2011 Infiniti M 56

Take a look at the Infiniti line-up compared to other top-tier luxury automakers and something’s missing. Nissan’s luxury arm hasn’t had biggie-sized luxo-barge after the brand killed the Q45 in 2006, and it doesn’t look like a replacement is coming anytime soon.

Infiniti’s veep of global business contends that the recently released M sedan will “play a flagship role” for the automaker going forward, and judging by the dimensions of the new M – which comes in around the same size as the old Q – he’s partially right.

Despite matching Audi, BMW, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz point-for-point on its entry-level and mid-size models, Infiniti’s offerings have always straddled segments. The G37 is noticeably larger than (more…)

Upcoming electric Infiniti?

Nissan’s president confirmed that an all-electric model was in work for luxury brand Infiniti, but nothing more has been said since. Additionally, Infiniti head Saito gave some clues of what to expect from an EV Infiniti.

According to Saito, Infiniti’s first electric vehicle offering will take the form of a small car, likely on par with the Audi A3 and BMW 1-Series. Infiniti sees the compact luxury segment growing rapidly in the coming years, surpassing the current entry-level luxury segment, which includes cars like the Audi A4, BMW 3-Series and even Infiniti’s own G. My precious: Infiniti G convertible. How precious?

infiniti g37 convertible

After the prices for Infiniti M sedan have been revealed, it’s time for the gorgeous convertible to announce how deep you should dig into your pockets to own a G37…Many may find the prices high, but there are lucky people who have a bottomless pocket and consider this amount as a daily allowance.

I’m talking about  $44,350 for the seven-speed automatic version, a $500 increase from last year. On sale now, the G37 Convertible Sport with six-speed manual is offered with new standard equipment, with a starting price of $46,950, up $3,050 from last year.

On the second year, the G37 Convertible is given a revised interior and upgraded entertainment and navigation systems, as well as power folding mirrors. Now included as standard equipment is last year’s Premium package, which has the Bose Open Air Sound System with 13 speakers and 2-GB Music Box, driver’s-seat memory and power lumbar support, climate-controlled front seats with cooling, power tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel and a rear sonar system.

Yes, it looks damn good, yes, it is an Infiniti convertible with a helluva lot of gadgets and yes, it is packed with latest tachnology stuff, but would you pay almost half 100K for it?!

Prices for Infiniti M sedan

You’ve seen them, liked them and waited (un)patiently for the price. Finally, prices for all-new Infiniti luxury sedans M37 and M56 have been revealed.

For just $46,250 you get the rear-wheel drive M37 to impress you with the the 330-horsepower 3.7-liter V6, obviously more peppery than the last generation’s 3.5-liter V6 and fuel-friendly. The all-wheel drive variant starts at $48,400, and both models come equipped with Infiniti’s Drive Mode Selector, Active Noise Control, RearView Monitor and Enhanced Intelligent Key memory. (more…)

Infiniti Limited Edition. Again.

infiniti fx limited edition

After the very limited Infiniti FX edition presented in December last year, the European division thought they should have another limited edition, as the previous crazily expensive 100 units were more of a teaser for the costumers. So this is how the very inspiredly-named “Limited Edition” was born. (more…)

Infinity to produce a compact rival for 1 Series and A3

Infinity front angle view

Infinitis are considered well powered and well equipped cars, not to mention they are a thorn in the back for BMW and Audi in the US. Unfortunately, here in Europe, they are not very popular, but as they announced recently they would produce a compact car, they should consider bringing it to Europe, too, as the market here is really lucrative for hatches.

As Infinity got us used to, I guess that this expected hatch will be a very pleasant combination of high performance, sleek exterior design, smooth lines and welcoming interior. Of course, garnished with late-tech gadgets.

It will surely be strong competition for BMW 1Series and Audi A3, but I am yet reserved as of the unspecified price.
