After all this year’s recallings over break issues or unintended acceleration issues, for not just one carmaker, GM, having its name put on the list, planned to equip many GM models with brake-override systems, which will slow vehicles in the event of sudden acceleration.

GM’s problem, however, is related to break issues, not unintended acceleration, which affects GM trucks and SUVs. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating possible brake-line failures in a number of Chevrolet and GMC vehicles, after receiving 110 complaints about “loss of braking effectiveness” in the Chevy Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, and Tahoe, as well as the GMC Sierra and Yukon. Preliminary reports indicate that corrosion of the brake-lines could be the cause of the problem. So far, the issue seems limited to vehicles from the 1999 to 2003 model years, six million of which still roam the roads. An additional 189,000 heavy-duty pickups are also included as part of the investigation.

However, there is one particular complaint which signals some very serious problems. It alleges that a brake-line failed due to corrosion, resulting in a “large increase in stopping distance…with the brake pedal pushed to the floor.”

We’ll just have to wait and see the answer from NHTSA and carmakers’ move in order to fix all these issues.

GMC, the “Professional Grade” truck maker under the General Motors umbrella, isn’t finished adding luxe touches to its Heavy Duty series of Sierra pickup trucks. Just yesterday, GMC rolled out a brand-new Denali version of the HD pickem-up truck, but later this year at launch it will be available only as a crew-cab, four-wheel drive, single-rear wheel, three-quarter-ton model.

Before the end of the year, though, GMC will begin spreading the Denali love down its entire line-up of heavy haulers, and PickupTrucks.com is reporting that the dual-rear wheel dually chassis will be included. Naturally, a choice of either the 6.0-liter gasoline-powered V8 or the torque-tastic 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V8 will be the biggest choice at the time of purchase, followed by the buyers selection of either black, gray or white. Pricing has not yet been announced.

The “professional grade” version of the Chevy Orlando, Granite concept represents the smallest GMC ever built, if it were to go into production.

The Granite is GMC’s take on the already revealed Chevy Orlando concept, a new crossover-based utility vehicle, or CUV. GM has decided that the Granite is so unique, however, that it doesn’t fit an existing segment – instead creating the ‘urban utility vehicle,’ or UUV segment.

GMC did stick true to its roots with the exterior styling of the Granite keeping a very rugged look – slightly more bold than than Orlando concept. At the same time, many will likely find similarities with the current Scion xB’s exterior and the Granite concept – and that is likely no fluke. In fact, the two vehicles are virtually identical in exterior shape and size.

On the inside of the Granite GMC says it tried to make the vehicle like an urban loft apartment – or that is to say, livable, comfortable and stylish. GMC says that the interior was also inspired by aircraft-type mechanical instruments and precision tools.

GMC also took it upon themselves to equip the Granite with reconfigurable seats – a feature it believes will appeal to young professionals in need of versatility.

To move this UUV GMC supplied this concept vehicle with a 1.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and matched it to a six-speed transmission for what it believes is a great blend of efficiency and sportiness. The transmission also features dual-clutch design for faster, crisper shifts.

HOWEVER, I find the exterior abhorrent…

The giant American car manufacturer will unveil the Denali XT concept at the Chicago auto show in an attempt to prove they can make cars that don’t eat up huge quantities of fuel.

The new Denali XT is aimed exclusively at the American market, but it was designed and developed in Australia by General Motors’ Holden Division. The look of the pick-up is very futuristic and aggressive, with LED headlamps resembling the Audi A5’s, large grille and enormous 23 inch wheels, sheltered by bulging wheel arches. The spacious inside is dominated by leather and aluminum and can easily fit 5 people.

The most important feature of the GMC Denali XT is its hybrid drivetrain, an electric engine and a 4.9 direct injection V8, running on bio-ethanol, help the Denali produce 326hp.

A production version of the Denali XT is expected by the end of 2010.
