The beast has been unleashed: 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon

2011 Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon

In America, drivers who prefer station wagons to crossovers and SUVs are in a distinctly fringe minority. In spite of that, Cadillac has heard the cries from the wilderness and delivered the car they’ve been clamoring for. The CTS-V Sport Wagon is now finally official and production starts later this year.

Ever since AMG built a handful of Hammer station wagons back in the late 1980s, the idea of a family hauler with ludicrous power and torque has held a strange and twisted appeal for us. The V-wagon takes all the traits we love about the 556-horsepower sedan and adds the expanded cargo body style.

Aside from the tailgate, everything else is carried over, including the magnetic ride damping system, Brembo brakes, 19-inch wheels shod in Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s, and the asymmetrical half-shaft rear end to avoid axle tramp. Add in 25.4 cubic feet behind the back seats and 58 cubic feet with them folded and we may well have the perfect performance car. Did we mention the 551 pound-feet of torque?

Year of recalls: 2003-2007 Cadillac CTS recalled in cold weather states over possible brake issue

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced the recall of 2003 through 2007 model year Cadillac CTS sedans for a brake issue that may lead to longer stop times and the increased risk of a crash. Recalled models reside in 21 cold weather states north of the Mason Dixon Line. NHTSA says snow and road salt could cause a front brake hose fitting at the caliper to corrode, with contaminants entering the routing sleeve. Significant corrosion could then result in a brake hose-tube interface that may develop a leak. That sounds bad because it is, but a fix is just a dealer visit away.

Owners of affected CTS models can take their vehicle to the nearest General Motors dealership to have both front brake hose assemblies replaced free of charge. Hit the jump to read the NHTSA press release, which includes all 21 states involved in the recall. (more…)

Hennessey’s V700 Cadillac is just crazy!

hennessey cadillac cts-v700 burnout

Driving a Cadillac supercharged CTS-V will let nobody unimpressed! The thrill of 556 horsepower paired with 551 pound-feet of torque make it a monster. Then comes Hennessey and extract the most of the CTS-V. John’s calling it the Hennessey V700 and, as you might have ascertained, it’s a Cadillac CTS-V pumped up on the best auto-steroids available in the Houston area. One crank of the fake key and your ears quickly explain that the gnashing, metal-on-metal-on-lava sounds leaking out from beneath the floor pan don’t come from some run-of-the-mill super-Cadillac. No, something special is going on under that thar tortured hood. Viciously special. (more…)

Cadillac XTS will hit the road as a 2012 model

2010 Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept

Back in January, we watched as Cadillac took the wraps off of its big XTS Platinum sedan concept under the Detroit Auto Show lights. And while parent company General Motors insisted on slapping the word “concept” behind the car’s name, we were pretty sure that the XTS we saw in Cobo Hall was very close to being production-ready.

Now, a new report from Motor Trend states that GM has, in fact, given the Cadillac XTS the go-ahead. When it hits the streets, the XTS will replace both the aging STS and DTS in the Cadillac lineup, and will feature a plug-in hybrid system mated to a 3.6-liter direct-injection V6 – the system originally developed for the Saturn Vue. MT also reports that a twin-turbocharged version of the 3.6-liter V6 could be in the works, and that GM hasn’t necessarily ruled out the option of shoving a big ol’ V8 under the Caddy’s hood. V-series Recaro seats, standard for Cadillac CTS

Cadilla CTS

The Cadillac CTS is seen as a sports sedan, but there is something about it that makes you think twice before saying it is an excellent sports car: the front seats. But GM is about to change that as they will make V-series Recaro seats a standard for the CTS.

Cadillac’s Recaro front seats were previously an exclusive option for the high-performance CTS-V model, but GM’s luxury division will expand the option to include the standard-issue CTS for 2010.

Like the units found in the cabin of the CTS-V, those offered on the regular CTS will feature 14-way adjustability, French-stitched leather, suede inserts and heating and cooling functions. The Recaro option isn’t cheap, though, adding $2,800 to the cost of the CTS.

In addition to the CTS sedan, the Recaro seats will be available on the 2011 CTS Coupe and CTS-V Coupe. The CTS Coupe models will hit Cadillac showrooms this summer.
